  • Turning Insights into Action: Addressing Our Execution Challenge

accountability goals and planning growth mindset personal growth Oct 07, 2024

We don’t have a knowledge problem, we have an execution problem...

The number one factor holding people back is not a lack of information, hard work, a network of people or even natural talent.   It's execution that happens to be the single most significant market differentiator.

They say that knowledge is power… I disagree. Knowledge is only powerful if you use it!  People spent a lifetime gathering knowledge. But knowledge alone helps no one,  and great ideas are worthless without implementation.

What about ideas that others have used to create success? Those ideas fail over and over by people who don’t follow through.  65% of us Americans are overweight.
Contrary to our hopes, there is no secret to losing weight and maintaining overall health.  Yet we keep investing in one of the fastest growing industries world-wide. Every year new books are published, new pills are manufactured, and countless additional fad diets and plans are created in this $60 billion industry. Just Google and look at the tens of thousands of options that pop up when you type in 'weight loss. Yet Americans continue to be overweight and out of shape. It’s not a knowledge problem… It’s an execution problem!

According to book, The 12 Week Year, most people have the ability to double or even triple their income, simply by applying the knowledge that they have acquired.  Despite this, people continue to chase new ideas, spending more money and energy. Thinking the next idea will be the magic pill they’ve been waiting for.

I often see great things happen at the end of the month when a team is close to goal. Any tasks not directly to results are pushed aside for the short term, with all hands on deck to do whatever it takes to push revenue over goal.  There’s nothing like a deadline to get you motivated!

On the other hand, if you are experiencing a down month, it's easy write it off and anticipate the arrival of a new month for a fresh start.   Or in some cases, you may have accepted that ______ is 'always a bad month' for your practice.  In both cases, the excitement, energy and focus that might otherwise exist has disappeared.

There’s nothing magical about the beginning of a new month, or even a new year, other than the significance that we give it.  The date is insignificant. It’s just that we have determined a point in time at which success or failure is proclaimed.

While monthly goals are essential for vision casting,  these plans alone can sometimes be a barrier to high-performance.  Monthly thinking can be a trap, creating an unspoken belief that there’s plenty of time of the month to make things happen.  Execution happens daily, not weekly or monthly.  Just as we should live life in the moment, success is created in the moment!
